Mary Jo Buttafuoco currently resides in the San Fernando Valley in the area of Los Angeles. She has been living there for almost 26 years now.

After getting shot in her face,  Buttafuoco had undergone face retention surgery in the year 2006. She went through face suspension, facelift, and eye lift procedures to get her face back. Fortunately, it had helped her restore her smile and features back.

The next procedure, she underwent was for her ears to restore her hearing and prevent infections. Despite many treatments, Buttafuoco is still paralyzed on one side of her face. She is also deaf in one ear.

In an exclusive interview with the daily mail last month, Buttafuoco said: “I don’t want a ”poor me” story.”.

“I’m content, I’m happy, I’m very grateful. This is the most peaceful time of my life, but it’s been a hard-earned peace.”

Who Is Mary Jo Buttafuoco?

Buttafuoco is a survivor of a gunshot to her face. She was born on May 15, 1955, and is currently 67 years of age.

The young lady had married Joey Buttafuoco, a Long Island-based auto body shop owner, in the year 1977. They split in the year 2003.

Sixteen years after suffering from a brutal incident, she published her book; Getting It Through My Thick Skull: Why I Stayed, What I Learned, and What Millions of People Involved with Sociopaths Need to Know. 

Similarly, she has used her story to raise awareness about facial injuries.

Besides being a motivator, Buttafuoco is also a mother to two grown children: Paul Buttafuoco and Jessica Buttafuoco. She was married for the second time to Stu Tendler, who died in the year 2018 suffering from cancer.

Dark Side Of The 90s: Mary Jo Buttafuoco Got Shot In Face By Amy Fisher

Buttafuoco was shot to her face by Amy Fisher, a teenager who was raped by Mary’s husband Joey Buttafuoco.

Back in the ’90s, Amy was known as “the Long Island Lolita”. She was an adult actress and model who was in a physical relationship with Joey.

In 1992, Fisher had shot Mary Jo in her face using a .25-caliber handgun. It was understood that Fisher was extremely jealous of Jeff’s wife.

When May Jo had answered the door, Fisher told her that Joey was having affair with her imaginary sister. Hearing this, Butttafuoco got angry.

However, it was Fisher who took out her gun and shot it twice in Buttafuoco’s face. After which, Buttafuoco was taken to the emergency.

Fortunately, the wife of Joey Buttafuoco was able to survive while Fisher was charged with attempted murder. Amy Fisher pleaded guilty to first-degree aggravated assault and she served seven years in prison.

In 1993, she had filed a rape case against Joey and after which he pleaded guilty. Buttafuoco then served four months in prison.

Life after prison, Amy Fisher began a new journey as a columnist for the Long Island Press. Similarly, Mary Jo also started her career as a writer and motivational speaker.
